What is the Gospel?
God is Holy, Holy, Holy
“Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.” Isaiah 6:3 ESV
God is so Holy that He can never commit an action against His holiness.
Man is unholy & sinful
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 ESV
Humans have fallen short of the glory of God.
We are all sinful and we are unable to commit an act that is holy and pleasing apart from Christ.
We might make some good choices according to human standards but according to God’s standards, all of our good works are like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6) meaning bad and not even close to comparison with God’s holiness.
Romans 3:10 says that we can’t understand, we can’t seek, and indeed we have turned away from Him. That is our state before Christ. We seek everything else except for God and His ways.
Ephesians 2:1 says we are dead in our trespasses and sins.
Sin requires a penalty or a payment
Romans 6:23 says, “the wages of sin is death.”
And it is referring to eternal death. It means that we are all sinful and deserve eternal death. If God gives us justice, we deserve hell.
And we are unable to overcome sin and death on our own.
But God…
One of the most beautiful phrases in the Bible. But God who is rich in Mercy sent His Son to atone for our sins in other words, to take the penalty for our sins. Jesus Christ, who is God, incarnate in flesh came to take eternal death on the cross and pay the penalty for our sins.
Ephesians 2:4-6
But how do you receive it?
Romans 10:9 – if you confess that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you are saved.
Mark 1:15 Jesus says to repent and believe in God.
Repent means turning away from sin and turning to God and believing in Him.
Confess means saying or calling what God calls sin as sin and agreeing with Him that you are sinful. And believe meaning to completely trust in Jesus.
